Many studies have concluded that manual therapies commonly used by chiropractors are generally effective for lower back pain treatment and general back pain.
If you have lower back pain, you are not alone. About 80 percent of adults experience low back pain at some point in their lives. It is the most common cause of job-related disability and the main reason for missed work days.
The purpose of chiropractic treatment is to help the body’s potential to heal itself. It is based on the scientific principle that restricted spinal movement leads to pain and reduced function and performance. Chiropractic care is a drug-free way to find back pain relief. It is non-invasive (non-surgical) and has not only proven to help with sciatica, but also herniated discs, pinched nerves, spinal stenosis, and bulging discs.
Causes and Reasons to Seek Lower Back Pain Treatment
The type of chiropractic therapy provided depends on the cause of the patient’s back pain. We specialize in treating back pain. Lower back pain can be caused by a variety of problems. The back is a complex, interconnected network of spinal muscles, nerves, bones, discs or tendons in the lumbar spine.
The following are some sources of low back pain:
- A herniated disk refers to a problem with one of the rubbery cushions (disks) between the individual bones (vertebrae) that stack up to make your spine.
- A pinched nerve or nerve compression occurs when there is pressure on a nerve. The pressure may be the result of repetitive motions, or it may happen from holding your body in one position for long periods of time.
- Spinal stenosis means the abnormal narrowing of the bone channel occupied by the spinal nerves or spinal cord.
- A bulging disc is similar to a herniated disc, but a crack occurs in the outer layer of the disc, called the annulus. A bulging disc is different because the disc simply bulges outside the space it normally occupies between your vertebrae.
