What To Expect From our Chiropractor

We offer chiropractic services that exactly match what your body needs. We use cutting edge technology, where a series of neural spinal exams are performed. These exams will locate any nerve interference in your body, and thus help our longmont chiropractors to identify key treatment areas. The chiropractor will review the results and deliver you a plan for care that best meets your individual needs. Check out our stages of chiropractic care to see how one of our chiropractors can best help you heal.

What To Expect From our Massage Therapists

We offer a variety of massage techniques at our Longmont studio including ashiatsu massage, swedish massage, aromatherapy massage, and trigger point massage. All of our massage services are available a la carte, or you can bundle them with the chiropractic adjustment plan of your choice.

Dry Needling at Your Longmont Chiropractor

dry needling LongmontYou may have seen in our series of Facebook posts chronicling the cupping experience of Andy Johnson of Farmstrong Coaching that Christa planned to use a technique called dry needling on him next. If you haven’t heard of this treatment option or wonder how it differs from acupuncture, we will explain all that and more in this post! Christa at the Cafe of Life in Longmont offers many effective and safe alternative therapies such as dry needling, acupuncture and cupping to help restore your optimal health.

What is Dry Needling?

Also known as intramuscular manual therapy, dry needling is a technique to treat myofascial pain by inserting needles into trigger points in muscle. According to the American Physical Therapy Association, or APTA,, “A trigger point is a taut band of skeletal muscle located within a larger muscle group,… and touching a trigger point may cause pain to other parts of the body.” Using thin filiform needles allows tissues that are not accessible via exterior manipulation, such as through massage, to be treated.

How is it different from Acupuncture?

Acupuncture is based on traditional Chinese medicine while dry needling was developed from research and is part of Western medical practice.

Why get Dry Needling?

Again, according to the APTA, “Preliminary research supports that dry needling improves pain control, reduces muscle tension, and normalizes dysfunctions of the motor end plates, sites at which nerve impulses are transmitted to muscles.” If you have recently been injured, dry needling can speed up your recovery. Dry needling also relieves pain and improves patients’ range of motion.

Dry needling is usually part of a larger treatment plan developed by the Cafe of Life team to best meet your individual needs. There are so many gentle yet effective alternative therapies to the standard prescriptions or surgical recommendations, and the Cafe of Life offers a wide variety from different types of massage to dry needling to the zone chiropractic system- call us today to start on your path towards vibrant health!

Tips from Your Longmont Chiropractor to Stay Healthy this Fall

Longmont chiropractorFall has officially arrived: the temperatures are cooler, pumpkin spice lattes have returned and the leaves have started to change colors! And although beautiful, dealing with falling leaves involves a lot of twisting, bending and lifting that could cause back or neck strain. Should you sustain an injury this fall, your Longmont chiropractor at the Cafe of Life will customize a treatment plan to restore your health quickly!

Tips to Prevent Fall Injury from Your Longmont Chiropractor

  • Use an alternating split stance when raking. Stand with one foot in front of the other for a few minutes and then change foot position.
  • Bend at the knees when picking up anything large or heavy. To avoid straining your back, make leaf piles smaller and be sure not to bend at your waist.
  • When mowing or raking, try to maintain good posture by standing straight with your shoulders slightly back. Also push with your whole body instead of just your arms and back when mowing.
  • For balance and to prevent muscle fatigue, switch sides as often as possible when using equipment for extended periods of time.
  • Wear supportive shoes with good arch support to minimize back strain and purchase ergonomic tools when possible.

The American Chiropractic Association cautions the “repetitive motion that your body undergoes when using such [yard] equipment can create a host of mechanical problems within the body.” Yanking the cord of a mower over and over, twisting again and again to rake up leaves and hunching down to pull weeds can all cause back or neck pain or even muscle tears or a sprain. Dr. Jess at the Cafe of Life in Longmont is an experienced chiropractor who offers multiple treatment options, including adjustments, stretching exercises, and laser therapy to restore and maintain your optimal health!
